A POLICE helicopter searched the North Petherwin area last week, after a call to emergency services reporting a vehicle fire.

Police were called shortly after 7pm on Monday, December 19, and were told a car was on fire in a field following a collision at Hellescott Bridge.

Fire fighters from Bodmin and Launceston attended the scene and extinguished the fire, and alongside the police used a thermal imaging camera, as no persons were in the vehicle or immediate vicinity.

A police helicopter used its thermal imaging camera to search a wider area and no persons were found.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “It is understood the car was in collision with a bridge and it had taken out three granite posts and had either been set alight or it had caught alight as a result of the collision.

“Police are now making enquiries to ascertain the owner of the vehicle and what offences, if any, have been committed.”

Anyone with information that can assist police are asked to call 101 or email [email protected], quoting log 633 19/12/16.
