The damp weather on Wednesday, June 17 did not hinder the growth of the arbutus which appeared in the lower lounge at Beaumont Court, North Petherwin. The propagator was Senior Carer Maureen (Mo) Andrews who had made 'strawberries' to hang on a branch of red wood. This was one aspect of the well attended 'Pink afternoon' in aid of Breast Cancer awareness which Mo organised with her usual flair and attention to detail. She was encouraged by the manager of Beaumont Court, Sally Julian, with the tremendous support from all the staff and together they produced a sumptuous strawberries and cream tea, a cake stall, many prizes, some original, some perennial favourites for the raffle plus a guessing game. Four residents were kept busy selling, writing names, tearing and folding tickets! There was brisk bidding as Mo auctioned a painting which was donated by local artist Tom Hutchinson, eventually being knocked down to Adam Paynter who was celebrating his return to Cornwall Council. As a result of the enjoyable Pink Afternoon, £332 was netted, and thanks have been extended to all concerned.
