THE exact number of affordable homes which will form part of an upcoming 114 house development in Bude has been confirmed in a planning application.
Cavanna Homes, which has been constructing a first tranche of 144 homes on land at Hillhead Farm on Stratton Road has submitted amended plans for the second batch of properties which it anticipates constructing in the near future.
While the amendments relate to the designs of the properties used in the scheme, 34 of the 114 properties will be considered affordable, with 24 for social rent and 10 set to be offered for shared ownership.
The social rent properties will comprise of six one-bedroom flats large enough for two people and a two-bedroom flat large enough for four people.
There will also be a number of houses available for social rent. In the development, there will be ten two-bedroom houses suitable for four people each, in addition to five three-bedroom houses and two four bedroom houses.
Meanwhile, the shared ownership properties will primarily comprise of ten houses of a two and three bed size.
Despite the changes to the site’s design, which will also see the reduction of two properties from the initially approved scheme of 116 houses, Cavanna Homes says that it is committed to the original number of affordable homes.
It told Cornwall Council the rationale behind the reduction in homes: “The purpose of which is to facilitate a more efficient and cohesive form of development which provides betterments in respect of the layout, public open space/amenity space and landscaping.
“For the avoidance of doubt Cavanna Homes remain committed to ensure the overall level of Affordable Housing provision fully complies with both planning policy and the Section 106 Agreement associated with the outline consent for the site.”
