Catherine Nardiello visited the Smiley Happy People Nursery in Launceston recently. Catherine is a concert pianist based half in Italy and Holland and half in France. She was educated in America and tours throughout Europe aiming to visit England approximately five times a year. Catherine has been playing the piano for 42 years and has produced a number of CDs, some of which are written specifically for children. When she visited Smiley Happy People, the children staff and parents enjoyed a variety of live music, including versions of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' 'Chim, Chim, Cheree' and 'Zip-a-dee-do-dah' and ending with a lively Gallop that the children loved to dance to. Throughout the concert Catherine introduced her music and answered questions. The children sang and clapped along to the music and even got instruments out to join in with. A spokesperson for the nursery said: "It was wonderful for the children to listen to live classical style music as they often hear pop music at home and on the television and nursery rhymes and children's songs, so to have a mixture of familiar tunes played in a classical way was a broadening experience." Smiley Happy People are planning to book Catherine again nearer Christmas time for a Christmas concert and to invite other pre-schools to join in the fun.
