LABOUR party supporters in Launceston have handed over a petition to their Conservative MP with more than 2,000 signatures, opposing any closure of the town’s hospital.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has previously told the Post ‘there are no plans to close Launceston Hospital’.
The draft strategic outline case of the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) has outlined what health bosses say is the ‘approach required to transform local services over the next five years’. There is the potential for a reduction of community hospitals to instead provide ‘community hubs’.
The outline business case estimates that there will be a financial deficit of £264-million across the system by 2020/21 if services continue to operate in the same way.
The petition was handed over in Launceston town square on Friday, March 31.
