A COUPLE whose son fell off a rope swing at Bude and broke his back want to thank everyone who helped in his rescue "from the bottom of our hearts."

Hans and Gill Weghofer, from Hersham, Bude, say of the rescuers: "They are solely responsible for the fact that our son Joe faces a future where he may walk again."

Joe, aged 19, a former pupil of Budehaven School, was on the rope swing at Stowe Woods, Bude, on September 12, when he fell off, breaking his back in the fall.
