Following the knifepoint robbery at Launceston’s steam railway in August the business has installed a new CCTV system.

Ian Rocks, who runs Rocks Locks on Madford Lane, donated the new system to the steam railway.

He said: “I find it so upsetting to hear these things are happening more often. It’s even more shocking when it’s at one of our local pieces of history.

“The newly-installed system is designed as a deterrent and to make those working at the railway feel more secure — with the knowledge that if anything happens in future it is all being recorded and can be used as evidence.”

Launceston Steam Railway’s director Jonathan Mann said: “We feel for the member of staff concerned. She’s all right but it must have been quite an upsetting experience.

“We’re very grateful to Ian Rocks for offering a free CCTV camera, but we decided we needed to install a full set-up to cover the complex which he’s very kindly offered to install at cost price.

“The footage from our old camera was black and white and not up to current standards — it was somewhat reminiscent of the old Doctor Who episodes.

”It is necessary that all businesses ensure any images they’re recording for security purposes and any equipment they use to do so meets the crown Prosecution Service’s current requirements, as it may not be sufficient to bring prosecution.”
