GEOFFREY Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, has joined forces with Chris Bryant MP, Chair of the All Party Group for Russia, to secure an urgent parliamentary debate regarding the detainees who are currently being held in Russia on charges of piracy.
Shebbear videographer Kieron Bryan and Torrington communications worker Alex Harris are both among the 'Arctic 30'.
They were taken into custody by Russian authorities with the crew of Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise during a protest against the Gazprom Arctic drilling platform Prirazlomnaya on September 18.
Two activists tried to climb the side of the platform and hang a banner.
A conviction for piracy carries with it a maximum 15 years in jail.
Kieron, who is a freelance journalist working on a contract for Greenpeace, was not one of the activists, but is still facing sentence.
