THE mayor’s cadet for 2017/18 has been announced.

LCpl Tilly Daniel will take over the role from the previous mayor’s cadet, Jack Hill.

LCpl Daniel is a much-respected member of the Holsworthy detachment of the Army Cadet Force (ACF). She is known for putting 100% into every aspect of her training and received immediate promotion to LCpl on completion of her 1-star training course.

During the presentation of the mayor’s cadet at the town council’s annual meeting on Wednesday, May 3, 2Lt detachment commander Jim Harvey said: “I regularly receive good reports and praise for her from other company staff following her involvement in other training such as expeditions and weekend camps.

“She enjoys helping at community events, fieldcraft, shooting drills and first aid training. She always makes time to support the younger cadets and her personal turn out is always immaculate.”

He said that LCpl Daniel always has a smile on her face, regardless of the training conditions and a positive attitude that inspires her peers.

She is aspiring to earn the senior rank of Staff Sergeant of the ACF, which 2Lt Harvey said, ‘I have no doubt she is capable of’.

Outside of the ACF, LCpl Daniel has many other interests including swimming, badminton and running. She also plays hockey for Bude under 16s and is currently training for the Bideford 10k run, which she is hoping to complete in 50 minutes — she also has future aspirations to compete in a marathon or triathalon.

She recently competed in the ‘Rotary Youth Speaks’ debating competition, where her team came in third and LCpl Daniel was voted ‘Best Chairperson in the District’.

LCpl Daniel also enjoys gardening and will be undertaking work experience at Rosemoor Gardens and also Shoreline Extreme Sports. But often, when unable to get out and participate in sports, she can often be found in the kitchen cooking.

She has said she unsure which career path she will take but knows it will involve either helping people or being outside.

2Lt Harvey added: “LCpl Daniel is an inspirational and highly motivated young woman and I have no doubts she will make an excellent ambassador for the community and the ACF in her role as mayor’s cadet.”
