A?LAUNCESTON man has received a parking penalty fine after parking "a wheel length into a loading bay".

Mike Hawkins had displayed his blue disabled badge when he parked his car on double yellow lines, on Madford Lane, Launceston.

He had taken his wife to town to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, but on returning to the car, was shocked to see a penalty notice.

The notice states it is for "parking in a loading bay during restricted hours".

Mr Hawkins feels that this is "unjust" as he was only taking a "a wheel length" in the "clear 20 metre" loading bay. He said that he had only pulled his car forward, across the yellow lines, out of "common courtesy" as there was another car close behind him that he didn't want to block in.
