THE Holsworthy Lions’ district quiz team were victorious for the third year in a row.

The district quiz finals were held on Wednesday, March 7, at the White Hart Hotel in Launceston.

Four teams took part; Camborne, Exeter, Tavistock and Holsworthy.

Through the rounds it was a very close contest between Tavistock and Holsworthy, with Camborne only a short distance behind. However, Camborne finished particularly strongly in the last round to catch up to Holsworthy.

The final scores were: Camborne 87, Holsworthy 87, Tavistock 83 and Exeter 62.

The contestants then went to ‘sudden death’ to establish a winner. The question concerned the percentage of the London underground system that is actually underground.

Fortunately the Holsworthy team’s estimate was closer to the correct answer on the question master’s sheet and they won the district quiz for a third successive year.

A spokesperson for the Holsworthy Lions said: “I’d like to particularly thank John Cottle, Pat and David Smith and Robin Mitchell along with our traveling reserve Ray Vanstone for their efforts.”
