ONE of Launceston’s main roads is set to close amid more than ten days of roadworks.

Launceston’s Link Road and Hurdon Road have been penned for 12 days of works and closure to allow for essential carriageway repair.

Cornwall Council have notified residents that from Monday, July 28 until Saturday, August 9 the road will be closed between 7pm and 6am.

The closure, which runs from the Pennygillam roundabout to double roundabout adjoining Tavistock Road, will also feature a ‘clearway parking zone’.

A council spokesperson explained: “During working hours, a clearway parking zone will be in force along the full extent of the site. Any vehicles parked in the signed areas during this time may be towed and charges will apply. Any designated parking bays within the area will be suspended.”

The council has also expressed that the workforce aim to complete the noisiest parts of the work at the earliest times, in order to minimise impact on residents.

A spokesperson continued: “We know that noise associated with night time working can cause disruption tor residents and we understand this can be frustrating. Please be assured we aim to complete the noisest operations as early as possible and will try to minimise any impact should the works overrun due to unforeseen circumstances.

“Access will be maintained to the retail facilities and hospital, but road users may be asked to follow the diversion.”

The diversion in place will see drivers directed along the B3254 towards Coads Green, before passing Bray Shop and turning onto the A388 back towards the town. An alternative route is also in place which takes drivers through Launceston’s town centre via Western Road.

The spokesperson continued: “All through traffiv will need to follow the diversions in place. Traffic marshals will be on site to support residents and businesses needing local access.”
