An engineering production assistant from Launceston has come up with a hair raising idea to raise money for charity – quite literally!

On February 25, Jane Nolan, who works for Lowley Engineering in Launceston, will be having her head shaved to raise much needed funds for the Oncology Department at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Jane said: “A very close friend has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is undergoing treatment at Derriford, so I really wanted to do something to help. This money will buy equipment for the Oncology Department and will make patients’ lives easier during treatment.”

Alongside the head shave, Jane will be holding a raffle and an auction. Items up for grabs include a limited edition Charlie Bear, a Jo Downs Handmade Glass Art Frame, a 50” TV, afternoon tea at Lifton Hall Hotel, a cream tea at Lewtrenchard Manor, a round of golf for four at Trethorne Golf Club, a Hicks & Sons rug, and a Plymouth Gin Tour for two along with champagne, wines, gins and gift sets.

“I’m so chuffed that so many local businesses and artists have donated items to support this worthwhile cause,” added Jane.

Jane has already raised over £700 towards her £2,000 target and has now set up a JustGiving page to help her reach this.

The charity head shave will be held at The Westgate Inn, Launceston on February 25 at 7.30pm.
