On Sunday, Tim Fuge will be starting his 1,000 mile cycle ride from John O'Groats to Lands End to raise money for two charities.

Tim can usually be found on top of a roof around the Launceston and North Cornwall area as he works locally as a roofer and builder but he has taken two weeks off work to do the cycle ride. He has previously done two fairly long distance bike rides for charity but this is something he has always wanted to do from an early age.

The money will go to Amigos (http://www.amigos.org">www.amigos.org. uk), which is a Ugandan charity that educates and equips the lives of Uganda's poorest children, young people and families, and to a man called Lenny Rogers from Grace Church at Morval (the church that Tim belongs to) who is living and working in Kosovo, setting up a farm to help and encourage locals back into agriculture after the war. Tim recently spent 10 days in Kosovo with a team of people from Grace Church, helping Lenny on the farm.

Tim's ride will average at 75 miles a day and he will be arriving at Lands End on July 10. People from churches all across the UK have been very helpful and offered him places to stay all the way down the country.

The route that he will be taking is not the easiest but he will be passing through some of the most beautiful scenery — what better way to see the whole of the UK!

He will be coming down the east coast of Scotland and down along Loch Ness, before going down through Dumfries towards Kendal. Sticking mainly to the west cost he will pass by Manchester and Liverpool into North Wales and then he will head on down through the Black Mountains and across the Severn River to his native West Country. He will be staying the final night at his parents' house before the last bit down to Lands End.

One of his concerns about the journey is the risk of going north to south as it is likely he will face prevailing head-winds for most of the way. His second worry is the slight risk of a knee injury re-occurring from a cycle ride a few years ago. But with taking it easy on the hills and staying positive it should all be fine and it is sure to be an experience to remember and maybe even re-live in a year or two!

If you would like to donate to either of the two charities — visit the Amigos website or send a cheque for Lenny Rogers (please contact Sara Fuge on 01566 782630 for details and the address to send to).
