A LAUNCESTON man with his own programme has been axed by Radio Devon. Mr Douglas Mounce's show is to finish along with three other presenters, fronted his own popular show. One staff member warned that the decision would upset thousands of loyal listeners.
Douglas, the host of Showtime from 5pm to 6pm and a late show from 10pm to 1am on Sundays, is the only presenter to have been at the radio station since it was launched in 1983.
The BBC staff member, who did not want to be named, said: "Douglas is enormously popular, especially with older people — you just don't know how many people use him as a lifeline. So many people say it is the one programme they wait for.
A BBC spokesman confirmed that the shows presented by Douglas Mounce, Ian Brass, and Alec Benford would be replaced in the New Year. The other presenter, Richard Green would change from daytimes to present a weekly 80s show.
