JOE Hillas of Craig Chapman Hair Design in Launceston has successfully secured himself a place on the Fellowship of British Hairdressing’s prestigious ClubStar Art Team 2018.
Joe, 21, was put through his paces along with 20 other hopefuls, as they presented their best hair work to an illustrious judging panel at the Wella World Studios in London.
Joe impressed them with a textured, ethereal, editorial inspired look on a model, and proved his creative mind with a beautiful mood board.
Joe said: “I have always loved braiding and playing with dual textures so that’s what I decided to do in my audition, pulling two completely different styles together.”
This sought-after ClubStar Art Team education programme is aimed at hairdressers between the ages of 16 to 25 and it is the first port of call for any young, passionate and aspiring hairdresser.
The initiative was set up by the Fellowship for British Hairdressing, an organisation run by hairdressers focusing on promoting artistic and creative quality, and providing support for future hairdressing talent keen to make their own mark in the industry.
The application process began in June, with entrants submitting an online application form and uploading a short video to Instagram summarising why they should be in the team. 21 applicants were then invited to the auditions.
Joe said: “This is the first thing out of my usual salon work that I have ever put myself forward for. I was just excited to be a part of it and never thought I would end up securing myself a place. I deal with pressure well so when it came to the auditions, I just relaxed and made sure to enjoy myself.”
Joe and his seven team-mates will spend 2018 immersed in fantastic mentoring days with top industry experts, developing their salon and personal skills, as well as enjoying exclusive invitations to elite industry events, all alongside his salon work.
Joe added: “Next year is going to be wicked! I am excited to work in different places and bounce off different people. I can’t wait to learn from all the big names and start working towards being a big name myself!”
