Launceston mother and son Tina and Ryan Davey have expressed their thanks to everyone who kindly sponsored them to do a tandem skydive in aid of the Children's Hospice South West Precious Lives Appeal. After several cancellations due to bad weather they eventually took to the skies on October 18, 2008. The journey started at Perranporth Airfield with a nerve-tingling plane ride and breath-taking views of the Cornish coastline. Tina was the first to exit the aircraft and experience the exhilarating thirty seconds of free-fall, falling forward into the clouds, diving down through the air reaching a speed of 120 mph. She was pleased to be first out of the aircraft as she did not really want to witness Ryan jumping out of an aeroplane at a height of 10,000ft. Ryan said that he felt a little concerned to see his mum fall out of the plane but she insists that she exited in a very professional manner! Tina added: "The peace and quiet as the canopy opens is a surreal experience. The steering toggles then come down each side of you and you begin a tranquil parachute descent from a mile up in the air, steering yourself back down to the centre of the drop zone below." Tina and Ryan said they would both do it again tomorrow, given the chance and said that it was a fantastic experience that they will never forget. Combined with donations in lieu of presents for Tina's 50th birthday they raised a grand total of £1,004.50 for the Precious Lives Appeal.
