A LAUNCESTON man has raised more than £1,000 to help a charity that supported him through his battle with cancer.

Joe Sleep was diagnosed with prostate cancer in summer of last year and had a number of treatment options. After talking these through with the Vanessa Wilcox, Chestnut Nurse at Derriford Hospital, he decided on a course of radiotherapy treatment.

For five days a week and over 7.5 weeks Joe had to make the journey to Derriford by the Hospital Car Service — a provision he really appreciated as he does not drive.

A year later he wanted to give something back and decided to walk along the Camel Trail from Wadebridge to Padstow — no mean feat for Joe as in his teens he was kicked by a cow smashing his kneecap, resulting in the knee being pinned. Today, Joe struggles with his walking and uses a stick.
