Over £4,000 has been raised for an oncology unit by a Launceston resident who braved the shave.

Jane Nolan, an engineering production assistant raised the money for the oncology outpatient department at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

On February 25, Jane, who works for Lowley Engineering in Launceston, had her head shaved to raise much needed funds.

Jane said: “My close friend, Brian, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is undergoing treatment at Derriford, so I really wanted to do something to help. This money will buy equipment for the Oncology Outpatient Department and will make patient’s lives easier during treatment”.

Alongside the head shave Jane held a raffle and an auction at the Westgate Inn in Launceston. Jamie Lee, a member of Plymouth Hospital’s Charity Team, said: “This is an amazing donation and will make such a difference to the Department.

“I can’t thank Jane and her friends enough.”

Jane added: “I’m so chuffed to have raised so much money for such a worthwhile cause. I want to thank everyone for their support, especially the staff and customers of the Westgate Inn, and to Jo, landlady of the Westgate, for rounding up the total to £4,300.”
