Verification from the Guinness Book Of Records is being awaited by Peter Jones who has constructed, what he believes, is the world’s largest wooden plant tub, at the Hidden Valley Discovery Park near Launceston.

Hand constructed on site by owner Peter himself, the wooden planter (pictured) stands at five metres tall and, although no official verification has been received, with the process taking up to three months, Peter is confident that no other planters of this size exists in the world.

Currently planted with 25 trees including weeping willow, elder and Japanese Maple, with plans for the planter to take on a Hallowe’en display for October half term and a display of fir trees in time for Christmas.

The plan for the planter’s construction is not the first for a record-breaking display. In the past the park had set out to build the world’s largest hanging basket, however this proved unsuccessful due to the expense of the project. If the wooden planter is successful the park may relook at these plans in the future.

The planter is situated in the car park and it is hoped that it will promote the park’s new coffee garden, one of the six gardens that are currently being established within the park.
