THE I Didn’t Know campaign, launched by Devon and Cornwall Police in October, was up for discussion at the latest Bude-Stratton Town Council meeting, as PC Stephen South delivered his updates.

In October, Devon and Cornwall Police launched the campaign, raising awareness to children, parents and third parties on how to spot the signs of child sexual exploitation, and providing support on how to get the correct help and advice.

On Thursday, December 1, neighbourhood beat manager for Bude, PC Stephen South, delivered a presentation on this campaign to Bude-Stratton Town Council, giving them an insight into the police’s priorities.

There are five themes under the campaign, including three that raise awareness on peer-on-peer exploitation and are aimed at young people, with a further two for parents and third parties.

The council heard that the media has recently reported on several high profile cases involving the exploitation of children across the UK.

PC South explained that in every town and city, ‘exploitation, in some form, unfortunately will be occurring’, adding that police in Bude take this matter very seriously.

For members of the public with any concerns regarding potential exploitation of adults or children, whether it is occurring now or in the past, PC South has urged anyone to come forward and contact Devon and Cornwall Police.
