A BIKE track adjacent to a primary school could become a new community hub for the town after approval was given by Cornwall Council.
The scheme proposed the installation of a pre-fabricated container unit clad in natural timber, and would, by design be one that promotes inclusivity and community cohesion with its availability for the wider community to use beyond the school gates.
The proposals were expanded further in application documents, stating: “The existing community bike track, located to the west of Stratton Primary School, has been purposefully designed to cater for users of all ages and abilities, offering a range of difficulty levels that encourage participation from beginners through to more confident riders.
“The objective of this proposal is to introduce a community hub building that will serve both the bike track and the adjoining playing field, while more broadly supporting the community by encouraging healthy lifestyles, outdoor activity and social engagement. The hub will provide flexible indoor space suitable for small-scale community events and gatherings and will be open daily to offer facilities for those using the bike track and field — including visitors enjoying picnics and family days out.
“A central principle of the design is inclusivity: the building will be fully accessible, ensuring that people of all ages and physical abilities can use and enjoy the space with ease. Ongoing security and maintenance of the hub will be overseen by Stratton Primary School, ensuring it remains safe, welcoming and in good condition for community use.”
The plans, which were not objected to by Bude-Stratton Town Council, were approved by the planning authority with conditions relating to a number of conditions relating to ecological remediation and achieving the required biodiversity net gains.
