NINE new families hope to visit Launceston with the Plestin les Grèves exchange in April, and the town’s twinning association is seeking hosts.

Chairman Jill Whitechurch told members of Launceston Twinning Association at their annual meeting on November 18 that enthusiasm for twinning was strong on both sides of the Channel, with the result that more people from Plestin were hoping to be part of this year’s official visit to Launceston — it will take place at the end of the Easter holidays — from April 8 to 11.

More than 60 French visitors were entertained in Launceston during the previous visit by Plestin in spring 2014.

Jill said: “We are delighted that the momentum is continuing. We have already found hosts for some of the new people, but we still need more.”

Jenny Worth, who organises the regular exchange visits, said: “We still need to find ‘homes’ for two families, two couples and one single lady — all of whom speak at least some English.

“The twinning weekends are always a lot of fun. We will be organising activities that weekend, including a group visit to a local attraction during one day and a big get-together in the town hall on Sunday evening, so nobody is left on their own to entertain strangers for a whole weekend!

“If anyone would be interested in finding more about what is involved or the people who want to come to Launceston in April they can contact me at [email protected]

Treasurer Jean Mansell told the meeting all the twinning social events had made a surplus, which stood the association in good stead for hosting Plestin in 2016.
