THE build up to the St Peter’s Fair Week in Holsworthy has been met with a blow after it was confirmed that one of the event highlights would not be making an appearance this year.

Traditionally, the visiting fairground attraction is formally opened by the Pretty Maid shortly after being unveiled outside the Church of St Peter and St Paul.

However, the organising committee of the St Peter’s Fair Week have said that there will be no fair this year, after being let down by the fairground operator.

They have stated that having discussed the issue with the fair operator in January, the fair committee had been informed on Wednesday, July 1 that the required paperwork had not been submitted to Torridge District Council, who own the Manor Car Park where it is held.

A spokesperson for the St Peter’s Fair committee said: “Unfortunately, we have to announce the Holsworthy will not be getting a Funfair for this year’s St Peter's Fair week.

“After discussions that started with the fair operator last January and were all going well, we were informed on Wednesday by Torridge District Council that the operator had not submitted their paperwork.

“Torridge District Council has been very flexible with the application dates, but the operator has let us down at the very last minute.”
