RGB Building Supplies has selected Launceston-based Cedar Grange Care Home and Bridgerule CofE Primary School in Holsworthy as finalists in its Surprise Supplies giveaway and it’s now down to a public vote to see if it is one of two finalists chosen to receive £1,000 worth of building materials.

Cedar Grange Care Home is part of the charity Cornwall Care and provides a place for 60 elderly people who need nursing support. The past two years have been extremely challenging for residents and the care home is aiming to improve mental health and emotional well-being by creating a relaxing and tranquil garden.

The aim of the garden is to help reduce the often-distressing symptoms of dementia, such as anxiety, agitation and apathy, as well as provide space for the Cedar Grange staff to relax during their breaks. If voted as a Surprise Supplies winner, the £1,000 will be used to purchase materials to create the garden.

Adam Davis, Branch Manager at RGB Launceston, where Cedar Grange Care Home would use the £1,000 donation, commented: “For our latest Surprise Supplies call out we received over 150 nominations from across the region, so congratulations to Cedar Grange Care Home for being chosen as a finalist. The care home does fantastic work to support the elderly in our area and, as its local RGB branch, we want to encourage our community to show their support and vote.”

Bridgerule CofE Primary School is aiming to transform an area of grass at the base of its playground into an all-year-round sensory and quiet garden where pupils can go to talk or enjoy some calming space. The project will include plants that provide gentle fragrance and some seating for chatting with friends.

The school will be involving pupils in the design and creation of the garden and, if voted as a Surprise Supplies winner, the £1,000 worth of materials will be used to help bring the designs to life.

Tony Curtis, Branch Manager at RGB Holsworthy, where Bridgerule CofE Primary School would use the £1,000 donation, commented: “For our latest Surprise Supplies call out we received over 150 nominations from across the region, so congratulations to Bridgerule CofE Primary School for being chosen as a finalist. The school’s plans sound fantastic and, as its local RGB branch, we want to encourage our community to show their support and vote.”

The two finalists are up against 7th Exmouth Scout Troop, Chilled Out Youth Space in Torquay, Exeter Community Initiatives, Gilead Foundations in Okehampton, Ilfracombe & North Devon Sub Aqua Club, In the Mix Project in Wiveliscombe, Swimbridge Primary School and Woodside Animal Welfare Trust in Plymouth.

The vote will take place between Monday, February 14 and 8am on Monday, February 28. Votes cast outside these dates will not be counted. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted. Votes can be made by visiting RGB’s Facebook page and liking the photo in the Surprise Supplies album that represents the group being voted for, or by [email protected] and putting the name of the group in the subject line.

The two finalists that receive the most votes will receive £1,000 each to spend at their local RGB branch. Terms and Conditions can be viewed by visiting RGB’s website – www.rgbltd.co.uk.
