In October 2020, Bude and Stratton Town Council were approached by a local resident with an idea to install ‘chatty benches’ around the area
The benches would serve as a place where people can go and sit and don’t mind others sitting for a chat as well. Locations for the benches were identified by public consultation over the winter.
The Council have been pleased to say that the bench plaques are now in place across three sites; the Triangle, the flag pole on Summerleaze Down and in front of the Castle grounds. For those with smartphones, QR codes on the plaques will take users to the mental health support pages on the Town Council website. The page has useful support for all ages, including young people and contacts for further additional support locally and nationally.
A spokesperson from BSTC said: “Thank you to the community for bringing this idea to our attention and sharing your views on suitable locations, it shows what fantastic things can be achieved for our community when we all work together.
“If you are experiencing loneliness, have mental health concerns or need some extra support through this difficult time.
“Please head to our website for more information and support.”
