A CORNISH community has put the fun in fundraising by raising thousands for local causes.

For more than 100 years Bude Carnival has been bringing fun to residents in North Cornwall. For over a century, crowds have come together to enjoy themselves while raising money for important local causes.

First held in December 1920, events included a grand torchlight procession, a grand masked confetti fete, hourly concerts by four Jolly Sailor Men and an exhibition of war trophies.

Today, the tradition has continued, though residents are now able to enjoy the day in the summer sun, and this year was no different.

On August 16, the town was a hive of activity with residents enjoying everything from performances to activities. However, for many the highlight of day comes from the town parade, which sees locals get in the spirit, dressing in their best costumes and bringing smiles to the community.

However, these fun and games were all in aid of a good cause, with this year’s carnival raising £2,000.

As a result, Born to be Wild, Bude Women's Group, Bude Food Bank, Bude Football Club, Eventide Nursing Home Budehaven Day Nursery, Marhamchuch Pre School, Bude Pilot Gig Club, Exercising for Mobility, Bude Cancer Support, Bude Animal Friends, Paul Coupland Photography, Bude Marshalls Junior Park Run, Elyssa's Hope Project, Stratton Playgroup, Bude Explorers Poland Trip, Talans Trust, Kilkhampton Christmas Fayre, Bee Team CIC, and The Neon Frog all set to benefit from the fundraising.

Following the success of 2026’s event, the carnival committee have thanked all those who helped make the day what it was, and supported the carnival in raising such a figure for local causes.
