THE annual awards evening for Launceston Town Band was held at Eagle House Hotel last Saturday.
Mayor Cllr Dave Gordon, in proposing the toast to the band, expressed thanks for their playing in and around Launceston, including recent carolling, the Mayor's Parade, Remembrance Sunday and Launceston Carnival — he said the band were great ambassadors for the town.
Band president John Ware, responding, said 2014 had been a difficult year for the band and Colin Gay and Ann Brown had worked hard to keep the senior and training bands going.
The band appreciated the strong support it received from the town council and from individual councillors.
The mayor had chosen the band as one of his charities this year and the band would be taking part in his concert at the town hall on Saturday, February 14.
Cllr Paul O'Brien was holding another garden party in aid of the band on Sunday, June 7.
Cllr Alex Folkes had agreed to pay half the cost of essential lighting outside the bandroom from his county council community fund.
John presented the trophies for the training band. Ann Brown, MD of the training band, awarded the Ian Rattray Trophy for most promising training band member to William Neale and the John Ware Shield for the training band player of the year to Lewis Gregory.
