CAFES, restaurants, dog-friendly accommodation and a tourist information centre have been recognised in the Cornwall Tourism Awards.

Among the winners in the annual awards, organised by Visit Cornwall and sponsored by Hoseasons, were Launceston's Tourist Information Centre, which received a gold award as tourist information service of the year.

Alison Jeffery, Tourist Information Centre manager, said she was 'thrilled and delighted' with the win.

Launceston Town Council has been looking after the Tourist Information Centre since April 2011.

Ms Jeffery added: "The clerk and deputy clerk and councillors gave us the foresight to keep the centre going when it could have closed and we get great support from them, so we are delighted to be representing them."

The centre received a bronze award in the Cornwall Tourism Awards last year and was highly commended in the South West Tourism Awards.
