A TOWN councillor in Holsworthy wants to see a giant mesh cow erected in the town as a collection point for plastic rubbish — intrigued?

During Holsworthy Town Council’s meeting on Wednesday, October 2, Cllr Toby Johns provided an update following a litter pick he recently attended in the town, which was set up by Paul Crum of Bude Rubbish Action Group (BRAG).

Cllr Johns said: “Paul said he was very impressed with how little rubbish there was in Holsworthy, apart from on Craddock Close that is, but other than that I think Holsworthy can be pretty proud. There isn’t a group like [BRAG] around here and we are being left in the dust by Bude who have a lot of ecological groups.

“You might have seen those big mesh fish that collect plastic bottles, well, I want to see one in Holsworthy!”

Cllr Nigel Keneally jested that instead of a fish maybe Holsworthy could have a Devon Ruby cow, however, Cllr Johns thought this was a great idea: “Yes! I want a big mesh Ruby Red cow. Add that to the council’s projects list.”

Cllr Keneally responded: “People seem quick to declare a climate emergency at the moment without doing anything about it. Actually, I think something like a mesh cow isn’t a bad idea — at least we would be doing something.”

Cllr Johns added: “That’s all I want now is a red cow.”

Amused, mayor of Holsworthy Jo Heaven concluded discussions by saying: “Note that Toby wants a red cow and we will look into that.”
