THE CORNISH singers, Fisherman’s Friends, famously hailing from Port Isaac, are celebrating after a movie based on their unexpected story is to be released next year.
Fisherman’s Friends will tell the story, based on real events, of ten fishermen from Cornwall being signed by Universal Records and achieving a top ten hit with their debut album, Sea Shanties.
Film crews are currently in the area to film scenes for the feature film, set to be a hit.
The comedy movie will tell the story of how the friends formed the famous singing group and propelled into international stardom after being discovered by a DJ, first singing modestly in the pubs and harbour of Port Isaac to then performing on the main stage at Glastonbury Festival. Sharing two things in common — friendship and a passion for the sea — the Fisherman’s Friends’ first album Sea Shanties reached the UK top ten.
Co-writer and co-producer of the movie, Nick Moorcraft, recently described the feature film as a ‘rags to riches story’, one of the power of the community.
Scenes from the film have been filmed in Port Isaac pubs, and locals have been asked to be featured as extras.
A spokesperson from Fisherman’s Friends said: “Fisherman’s Friends are thrilled a film based on their story and featuring their music is in production, and they look forward to watching it.”
