Well fleshed lambs to 312ppk for a pen of 42kgs £131 from Dave & Mandy Walter of Sessacott, Putford & S May from Week St Mary realised 311ppk for 44kgs £137. Several pens around to 310ppk, top per head was £175 from PR Weldhem Trekenning Farm of Newquay.

Draft Ewes

A lot faster trade again with a lot of plain ewes on offer.

Top on the day was £159 for a Charollais x ewe from Mr Collins of Honeychurch. Suffolk x ewes to £157 from Andrew Martyn Kitleigh of Week St Mary. Mules to £148 and grazing ewes at £90 to £115.

416 Store Lambs

A larger entry and a stronger trade.

Suffolk x lambs to £117 from R.M Barrow of Sheddymoor farm, Huntshaw and Romney x lambs from Henry Hawke of Bodgate realised £113. Shorn Texel x lambs from Peter Jones of Bratton Clovelly sold to £112.

Breeding Ewes

A much larger entry and a very strong trade. Suffolk x 2T from Richard Grigg of Lower Kyrse, Treneglos topped the day at £225 and 2 pens of Texel x mule 2T ewes made £222 from Hill Farm Partnership of Bideford who also realised £158 for their Mule FM.

Suffolk x ewe lambs from Henry Banbury of Iddesleigh saw their pen of nine top at £163.

21 Rams

A strong trade with a Chartex shearling selling to £500 from Robert Reddaway of Honeychurch followed by Tom Nancekivell of Heatham Hill who realised £400 for 2 Charollais shearlings.

383 Calves and Weaned Calves

Over 900 calves sold through Holsworthy in a fortnight, and trade to day changed up a gear with all grades and sizes selling very well especially those mid-range type of calves.

Weaned Calves

A good offering of weaned calves which sold well and reached £770 for a single Black 7-month-old Limousin steer in from David Turner of Torrington followed on by best Hereford steers reaching £750 for Henscott Barton LTD.

Limousin heifers to £668 for a sweet pair in from D Turner again and Hereford heifers to £610 for Henscott Barton LTD again.

Milk Calves

Good numbers and a stronger trade, top call was a big £755 for a marvellous Blue Bull presented by PH Collins, Holsworthy who sold another well to £700.

Other best blue bulls reached £670 for MJ Hopper, Holsworthy, £655 for the Kendall Family, Bodmin, £620 SG & GH Jose, Tregune, £580 for RK & CL Sainsbury LTD and £560 B & K Boundy, Bude with the 74 Bull Blues averaging well at £424.

Smart Limousin bulls up to an impressive £650 for a super sort in from AJ & PE Nancekivell, Kilkhampton, more at £640 and £625 for PH Collins and £605 for Rachael Skinner, Halwill.

A decent run of Charolais bulls which sold to a premium today and reached £660 for Wrangworthy Dairy, who sold more well at £625, £560 and £538 with all Charolais bulls in the market averaging well at £501.

A good run of Blonde bulls down from Exmoor for Albert Heal which saw plenty of interest and reached £715 and £682 x2.

Angus bulls a ballistic trade and reached a mega £685 for a pair of well grown milk calves in form S Wallis & Son, up from Helston others to £542 for AJ & PE Nancekivell and £500 for TJ & BE Cowley & Son, Ashwater and all 35 averaging just shy of £400.

Hereford bulls saw plenty of demand and made £580 for Kim Merrett, Bradworthy, younger sorts to £475 for RK & CL Sainsbury LTD and £470 for ST & EE Nickels, Barnstaple.

Heifers reached £660 for a super Blonde heifer in for Albert Heal again who sold others to £600. Best Blue heifers away to £650 for PH Collins, Holsworthy more to £580 for the Kendall family again, £502 for MJ Hopper and £480 for AH & CJ Sanders, Liskeard.

Hereford heifers to £550 for Kim Merret, others to £470 for A Heal and £380 RK & CJ Sainsbury. Best Charolais heifers to £480 Wrangworthy Dairy and £472 for LJ Goman, Hartland.

A sweet run of Limousin heifer sold well and topped at £490 PH Collins, £480 for R Skinner and £365 for J & C Turner, Kings Nympton.

Strong Angus heifers to £550 for S Wallis, Helston and £500 for A Heal and Angus heifers in the market average just shy of £300.

Dairy Sired Bulls

A single well done Fleckvieh bulls reached a big £510 for Wrangworthy Dairy. 27 Friesians average £168 to a top of £450 for S Wallis & Son.

220 Store Cattle

Another good trade today especially for those cattle with condition.

Mr KW Thorne of Hartland topped the sale with 5 single suckled 23mth Aberdeen Angus steers which raced away to £2300 and the second bunch selling well at £2130(4).

A 21mth Dairy x Aberdeen Angus steer from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain of Shebbear sold well at £2200 and whose younger 19mth Aberdeen Angus at £1920 other 17mth Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs N & B Trewin of Bideford to £1910(2).

A strong British Blue trade again and more required. Topping at £2080 from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain other 22mth wintering British Blues from Messrs G Daniel & Son of North Tamerton at £1900.

Mr O Holdaway of Welcombe saw his smart 18mth South Devon steer at £2140 and Mr C Mcwhirter of High Bickington saw his 2 smart 16mth Fleckvieh steers to £1830.

A few forward heifers topped at £2040 for a 29mth British Shorthorn from MP & A Stubbs of Bude who sold others at £1950 & £1800.

4 strong 21mth Aberdeen Angus heifers from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain to £1980, Charolais from Messrs N&B Trewin of Bideford to £1800, South Devon heifers from Mr O Holdaway at £1780 and the best of the Dairy British Blue heifers to £1760 from G Daniel & Sons others from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain to £1720 (19mths).

A strong demand for stronger housing cattle this week especially for those with condition, plenty of 16-18mths steers at £1600-£1800 and heifers to £1500-£1700.

Dispersal of Pedigree British Shorthorn cows from Messrs RL & S Jordan of Broadwood saw a large crowd of buyers both around the ring and on marteye.

Top price being £2750 for a 5 year old cow with her 4mth steer calf at foot with others at £2720, £2700, £2660 & £2620.

15mth old bulling heifers from the same dispersal to £1690 & £1600 and a 3 year old pedigree British shorthorn bull sold locally at £2950.

Other British Shorthorn cows & calves from Messrs MP & A Stubbs of Morwenstow at £2450 and the best of the served British Shorthorn heifers at £2040.

Younger Stores

A further consignment of 12mth British Blue steers from Messrs R Wood & Partners of Holsworthy again saw fierce bidding topping at £1470 for (5) and the second bunch of 6 at £1460 other 10mth British blues from Messrs MJ & RE Andrews of Launceston to £1310.

3 13mth Hereford x Friesian steers from Mr J Fishleigh of Langtree sold well at £1460 with the second bunch at £1280 other Hereford steers from Messrs CR & CF Timms & son of Okehampton at £1250 and 3 10mth Herefords from Messrs MJ & RE Andrews to £1160.

A cracking run of young 7mth outdoor British Blues from Messrs AD & SKA Darley of South Molton saw steers to £900 others at £830 and 7mth old heifers to £850 & £800.

Several young bulls this week topping at £1540 for a 15mth Herefrod Bull from Mr M Peter of Saltash younger 10mth bulls from Mr R Keenor of Lapford saw Aberdeen Angus to £910 & 7mth British Blues to £950.

Finished Cattle

312ppk was the top for a 554kgs Limousin from Mr WM Bridgeman of Jacobstow.

2 well fleshed Hereford heifers from Mr S Norman of Dolton both 298ppk to £1811 both over 36mths whilst a 784kilo OTM Friesian heifer from Messrs T & M Breeders at 250ppk £1960.

35 Dairy Cattle

This week’s dairy market saw an improved trade with fresh milk averaging £300 per head more than in last week however trade remains below the highs of July/August.

Top call of the day was £2800 for a super 2nd calving cow ‘Glendene Bertha 149’ yielding 37Kgs on behalf of Messrs H Burrows & Sons of Woolacombe.

Cows also sold to £2600 for ‘Aclandfarm Pinedale Madge Th VG85’ on behalf of Mr and Mrs DJ Heller of Truro with Steve Davey & Partners of Woolsey selling a 2nd calving cow ‘Westtown Trudy 32’ at £2500.

Heifers topped at £2750 for the Burrows Family for ‘Glendene Bertha 167’ with ‘Glendene Mahogany 73’ realising £2700 and his consignment of 8 averaging £2544. ‘Aclandfarm Monument Torch’ sold to £2650 on behalf of the Heller Family.

Messrs DJ, AE & MJ Skewes of Penzance continued their herd dispersal of pedigree British Friesian cows and heifers which saw a strong trade and great demand both around the ring and on MartEye.

Topping their consignment at £2300 was ‘Nobledale Elijah Toula’ a 2nd calving cow yielding 26Kgs with others selling to £2100, £2050 and £1980 and the consignment averaging £1837.

Dave and Lucy Johns of Bodmin sold a consignment of Bulling and Yearling Heifers from their pedigree Holstein Friesian ‘Tregoose’ herd which topped at £1050 (X11) and averaging £936.
