Similar entry and a slightly sharper trade and more could have been sold.

Top per kilo being 312ppk for a pen of 44.2kgs at £138 from A Martin of Corscombe, Okehampton. Two vendors realised 311ppk, Rod wood of Forda, Thornbury 44.6kgs to £138.50 and Connie Prouse Frizenham, Torrington 46kgs to £143. Connie also topped the day at £158 for her heavy lamb.

Draft Ewes

A flying trade from start to finish with everything in the overall average of £118.11. Top on the day was £185 for Texels from Graham Cowling of Kings Hill, Bude.

Charollais x ewes to £181 from M Cox of Bull Head Farm and Suffolk x ewes to £167 from Brad Tonkin of Ugworthy Barton. Mules to £165 & grazing ewes from £110 to £125.

150 Store Lambs

As well as the draft ewes all store lambs met a flying trade! Kevin Heard of Bradworthy topped the day at £133 for his wool lambs and the Hill family of Pilhead, Bideford topped the shorn lambs at £128.

504 Calves and Weaned Calves

A big entry of calves forward today making it 2326 calves sold through Holsworthy in October. Trade as last week was strong again with numerous calves soaring past £600.

Weaned Calves

A good offering of weaned calves to a top of £850 and £800 for two cracking Aberdeen Angus steers from RA & EM Haworth, Morwenstow, their heifers sold to £720 (x3). Limousin steers to £700 (x2) for RAS Johns & Partners, Shebbear.

Milk Calves

Top price was a grand £750 for a British Blue bull from FK M & SK Kendall, Lanviet, others £735 (x2) for O Petherick & Son, Kilkhampton, £660 (x4) for GRM Hill, Lamerton and £660 for The Kendall family again, with 2 more to £630 for JG & S Endacott, Halwill and 15 over the £600 mark.

Best Charolais bulls to £705 for SEJ Tapp & Son, Tiverton, £700 for J Irish, Newton St Petrock, more to £680 again for SEJ Tapp, £650 for LJ Goaman & Sons, Hartland and £640 for Jones Trelay Ltd, Camelford.

Aberdeen Angus bulls a solid trade again selling to £530 for RJ & JR Warren, Penzance, £445 for NJ & KC Bowden, Highampton and £420 for RK & CL Sainsbury Ltd, Launceston.

Hereford bulls to £480 for JC Jenkins & Son, Bradworthy, £390 Allin Dairy Ltd, Clawton and £380 for RK & CL Sainsbury Ltd, North Petherwin. Shaply Simmental bulls to £535 for RWH Dilling, Highampton. No strong Limousin bulls but got to £270 for JR Frayne, Launceston and £250 twice for J & CA Bray, Kentisbury.

Heifers to £660 twice for O Petherick & Son again, £630 for RWH Dilling, Highampton and £590 for Bradley Farm Partnership, Hallworthy.

Hereford heifers to £525 for GRM Hill again, £500 for O Petherick again and £400 for TJ Daniel, Sutcombe. Charolais heifers to £510 for SEJ Tapp & Son again, £490 RG & LA & SR Wearing again and £460 (x2) for D Philp & Son, Looe.

Aberdeen Angus heifers to £440 and £390 for RJ & JR Warren, Penzance, £330, £305 (x2) for SEJ Tapp & Son again. Limousin heifers to £350 for J & CA Bray again.

Dairy Sired Bulls

Another superb trade for these Friesian bulls with 19 averaging a vast £211. Top £315 for a strong type in from J & RJ Steer, Tavistock with plenty others over £280.

208 Store Cattle

Numbers tight this week and many more required to meet the large crowd of buyers, several leaving empty handed.

The strongest feeding steers all over £2000, top today being £2290 for three 22mth smart single suckled Aberdeen angus from Mr KW Thorne of Hartland.

A cracking run of single suckled cattle from Mr M R Satchell of Week St Mary sold very well, Limousin steers hitting £2180 other Limousins at £2090. Aberdeen angus to £2100 and 17&14mth Charolais at £2090 & £2080.

Other single suckled 17mth Limousins from Messrs JR & MJ Ovens of Beaworthy to £2060 & Dairy x steers to £2030 for a 24mth British blue from Messrs HF Chubb & Son of Tetcott.

Other 16-18mth British blues from Messrs CT Banbury & Son of Broadwood at £2060(4) and Simmental steers from Messrs HF Chubb & Son to £1980, also a framed Montbéliard steer from Messrs Beale & Griffiths of Northlew selling well at £1890.

A big jump in price & demand for the 16-18mth wintering types, Continentals to £1600-£1800 and Native steers to £1550-£1900.

Heifers topped at £2100 for a 23mth Aberdeen angus from KW Thorne and 18mth Dairy x British blue heifers from Messrs CT Banbury & Son at £2060.

Five British blue heifers from Messrs HF Chubb & Son to £1930, Limousin heifers to £1970 for 2 from Messrs JR & M Ovens. Other Limousin heifers from M R Satchell of Week St Mary other 16mth Charolais heifers from Messrs CT Banbury & son at £1850(2).

100 Younger Stores

15mth Limousin & British blue steers from Messrs DF & ER James of Halwill at £1840(2) who also sold a 13mth Limousin to £1660 & 12mth Herefords at £1610.

A blue grey 11mth steer from MR MN Sheers to £1600 who sold a 9mth British blue heifer to £1400 and 5 11mth British blues from Messrs Beale & Griffiths sold well at £1370.

Natives in demand, a 15mth Aberdeen angus steer to £1620 from Mr KJ Beer of Langtree whose 14mth heifers to £1500.

15mth old Herefords to £1600 from Mr Ross Millman of Bradford who sold other steers to £1550 and heifers to £1570 from the same farm.
