New Season Lambs
Larger entry and a much faster trade with an overall average per kilo being over 460ppk and per head being £203.10.
The young sappy lambs sold to a top of 478ppk for 2 pens of 41.2kgs at £197 from Mike and Chutney Watkins of Torrington.
Mike Hill of Bideford made 477ppk for his 41.2kgs at £196.50 and Chris Ham & Daughters of Cloister Hall sold 2 pens at 473ppk firstly their 43.2kgs at £204.50 and their 44kgs to £208.
Mike Hill then made 471ppk for his 42kgs to £198. There were Several other pens around 470ppk.
Top per head this week was £215.50 for 2 pens of 48kgs from James Fishleigh of Langtree.
Fat Hoggs
Smaller entry and a very strong trade averaging over 400ppk to a top of 451ppk for a pen of 43kgs at £194 from R Squire of Slade Farm, Honeychurch. Derek Gerry of Ashwater saw his 46kgs made 446ppk and £206.
Top price per head on the day was £217 from N Aris of Huntshaw, with several other pens over £213 a head.
Draft Ewes
More on offer and a strong trade for all weights, with a lot of lean ewes forward today.
Top being £200 from Phil Dack from Parkham for his Charollais. Suffolk x to £198 from ML Davey of Northlew. Texel x to £195 from 2 vendors and mules to £178.
Couples 30 Ewes and 36 Lambs
Smaller entry and a strong trade, doubles to £350 from C Dack of Parkham and singles to £330 for 2 pens of Mule hoggs with young lambs at foot from Henry Banbury of Iddesleigh.
457 Calves
Milk Calves
A big entry forward for the month of May, trade remains buoyant with many of those strong calves over £700.
The continuous drops in deadweight prices not yet having an effect on the calf prices but how long can it last.
Top of the section was £820 for a smashing Blue bull in from Peter Dymond, Shebbear others away to £810 for Nick and Kate Bowden, Highampton, £800 sold by Adam & Shaun Pengilly & Sons, Hartland, £780 LJ Goaman & Sons, £750 for a stylish single for Michael Hopper, Whitstone, £710 for young types from Bradley Farming LTD and £700 sold on the end for GC & LA Jones, Crediton.
89 Blue bulls average a impressive £609. Lots of good Charolais bulls penned and sold to £790 for a top-notch sort from Peter Dymond, more drew £758 Ian Tapp, Tiverton, £680 LJ Goaman and £672 for Andrew Gilbert, Sheepwash. 16 Charolais bulls average £662.
Strong Herefords parted at £700 for ARP Farming, more to £620 for Peter Dymond, £590 for a cracking run of young Herefords up from Pete Best, Newquay and £545 for Raymond Quinn up from Port Isaac.
Strong reared Angus attained £700 for a pair in from Parker and Burnett, Tiverton, £690 for Stuart and Michelle Ley, Sutcombe, £660 x2 for Ranches LTD and £655 for a cracker in from Martin Wallis making the long journey up from Helston.
Limousin bulls reached £645 x2 and £615 in from Samuel Down, Lapford others to £570 for Ben Smith, Sourton.
Heifers on milk sold well and achieved £742 for an A Class Blue in from Nick and Kate Bowden who sold more well at £698 x2 and £695 x2, more to £660 for CH Furse, Bradworthy with all the 81 Blue heifers averaging a powerful £509.
Neat Charolais heifers saw strong interest and reached £665, £615 and £600 all in from Peter Dymond, more drew £600 for LJ Goaman - All Charolais heifers average £571. Strong well grown Angus heifers hit £590 & £520 x2 for Ranches LTD, and £515 for Martin Wallis.
Hereford heifers well sought after and made £530 for ARP Farming and £470 for Dallyns Dairy down from Barnstaple.
Dairy Sired Bulls
A single Montbéliarde hit £525 for an eye-catching bull in from Alan Tucker, Stibb Cross. A small offering of Friesian bulls which sold to a top of £270 for Andrew Gilbert, Sheepwash.
Weaned Calves
A small run of weaned calves sold on the end which reached £810 for a pair of 5-month-old Blue steers in from James Warren up from Penzance.
160 Store Cattle
Another good entry and a strong trade throughout.
The stronger cattle sold very well considering the falling finnished price, plenty of bunches of 20mth steers £1800+, topping at £2190 for a 28mth now FA pure Charolais from Messrs BK Heale of Holsworthy.
2 27mth British Blues from Messrs AG & Miss RL Dennis of Northlew to £2070 and Charolais from the same farm at £1980.
Younger 20mth British Blues in demand, £1820 was reached for 3 from Messrs G Daniel & Son of North Tamerton others from Messrs H & M Thorne of Umberleigh at £1810(2).
Natives topped at £1960 for 2 22mth single suckled Aberdeen Angus from Messrs TW Owen & ML Vanstone of Holsworthy who sold 6 others at £1780.
Herefords to £1880 for a 20mth steer from Messrs AS & P May of Holsworthy other 21mth Herefords from Mr A Vallance of Okehampton at £1830.
Heifers topped at £1900 for a 21mth Charolais from Messrs AS & P May and a long pedigree South Devon heifer from Mr R Dennis of Okehampton to £1880.
6 20mth well fed British Blues from Mr SW Graham of Bude to £1790 and Charolais again from AS & P May to £1760 (2).
Native heifers saw Aberdeen Angus to £1780 for a 22mth steer from Messrs TW & ML Vanstone whose second bunch made £1740.
Younger Cattle
Quality was back on previous weeks however a cracking run of single suckled Herefords from Mr N Aris of Torrington saw steers to £1520 (13mth) others £1420 & £1400 and heifers to £1440.
10mth British Blue steers from Messrs R Wood & Partners of Holsworthy sold well at £1420 (8) and young Herefords (11mth) from Messrs PF & PA Tucker of Umberleigh to £1340 (3) and heifers to £1180(3).
OTM Weighing Cows
196ppk was the top this week for an 800kg Hereford cow from Mr AJ Roberts of Punchardon realising £1568.
107 Dairy Cattle
The dairy sale saw another strong trade with all types of dairy cattle forward seeing great demand both around the ring and on MartEye.
Topping the sale at £3800 was a superb 2nd calving cow ‘Newrock Applejax Maria 18 GP82’ yielding 43Kgs on behalf of Messrs RAS Johns & Partners of Shebbear.
The same vendors also sold another 2nd calving cow ‘Newrock Faneca Magpie 106 GP84’ at £3200 with their consignment averaging £3500.
Messrs Mitchell of St Kew sold a 2nd calving cow ‘Laram Red-Carpet Lys GP84 SP1’ at £3300 with their consignment averaging £3000.
Messrs SG & M Ley of Sutcombe sold a 2nd calving cow ‘Hoops Ivory 1294 VG85’ at £3100 and another ‘Hoops Dynamite Spangles Anna GP84’ at £3000.
Heifers also saw a fast trade topping at £3500 for ‘Hoops Donte Jane’ on behalf of SG & M Ley with their consignment averaging a very impressive £3213.
Also topping the heifer section at £3500 was a smart ‘Elmford’ bred heifer on behalf of Pete Warrington of Holsworthy.
Messrs RG & VJ Griffin of Launceston sold heifers to £3200 with Messrs RJ & JR Warren of Penzance topping at £3100 for ‘Bartinney Hampshire Rosina’ yielding 45Kgs.
Messrs T & VM Bennett of Cirencester produced a good consignment of fresh milk topping at £2900 (x2) for ‘Edingvale Millennium Millburn’ yielding 32Kgs and a non pedigree heifer yielding 37Kgs.
PH Collins Partnership of Holsworthy sold a consignment of pure British Friesian cows and heifers topping at £2600 for a 3rd calving cow with others to £2300 and £2250.
Messrs Mitchell of St Kew sold a good run of in calf heifers due July topping at £3200 for ‘Laram Hamp-Shire Chloe’ with others realising £2700, £2600, £2500 (x3) with their consignment averaging £2667.
Youngstock saw yet again great demand topping at £1620 (x5) for a group of well-grown and well-bred bulling heifers on behalf of RAS Johns & Partners of Shebbear.
Messrs Mitchell topped at £1350 for ‘Laram Total Gem’ born May 2025 with other yearling heifers realising £1320 & £1250.
Messrs RW & AW Rogers sold a consignment of British Friesian X youngstock which topped at £1450 (x3) with others to £1200 (x5).
Two Holstein Friesian heifer calves from Bradley Farming Ltd of Camelford sold to £460.
