AN international touring art exhibition entitled 'Stand Up for Women's Rights Now — Stop Violence against Women' was officially opened on Saturday in Launceston's Guildhall. Carrying out the opening was Argentinian artist and Launceston resident Marina Roberta Soler in the presence of Launceston mayor and mayoress Dave and Carole Gordon, Launceston councillors and visitors. Speaking in English and Spanish — translated by her local assistant, Cherry Warne, — she explained that the exhibition was not intended to make artists famous but rather to highlight the concern about violence against women and girls, to show sympathy for the victims and to raise awareness of a worldwide problem.
