THE Launceston Town Square Events Team held their first event of the year last Thursday.
The wine and wisdom, held at the Liberty Suite was the first fundraiser for the group and teams from many local organisations took part. The winning team came from the Town Hall and comprised Nicky Checkley and her husband David, Graham Facks-Martin, Frances Nally, Richard Powell and Rita Skinner.
Lorna Lane, hair of the Events Team said "It is fantastic that so many local groups have turned out tonight to support us. The evening has been a great success. We are especially grateful to all those who have provided support for the evening by supplying us with refreshments or prizes. Thanks also to Eric Lane for being our quizmaster."
The event raised over £250 for the team, and Lorna added: "This is a great start to the year and together with grants from the Cornish Towns Association, the Launceston Forum and Launceston Town Council the team will be able to ensure that regular events take place in the
heart of our
community."
Events already planned this year include: butter markets on the first Saturday of every month (from March, except June 6); general markets on the third Saturday of every month (from March); a Community Day to
celebrate Launceston WI's 90th year, a Cycle Awareness Day and a Medieval Day in May; French Market, Digital UK roadshow, Butter Market and Victorian Market June 27; Family Fun Day in August; a Community Day and a Local History Day in September.
