Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service says it has received a high volume of emergency calls since the government issued its nationwide severe alert on Friday evening against the use of disposal barbecues because of the fire risk.
A spokesperson said: “Please only call 999 if there is an emergency. We understand residents may be concerned, but we are unable to respond to reports of neighbours having barbecues, bonfires or campfires in their gardens unless there is an emergency.”
Meanwhile, a player at Carlyon Bay Golf Club was shocked to find the remains of a disposable barbecue on the tinder-dry course. He said it was unbelievable in light of the fire risk.
