AGE UK is pushing a door-to-door transport scheme throughout Cornwall, which will cover Launceston, Bude and Camelford areas.

Transport is an essential requirement for people in Cornwall, especially as it is primarily a rural community. Transport Access People (TAP), Age UK’s subsidiary company, provides community transportation all around Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and South Devon.

Transport is arranged for people who have non-emergency healthcare appointments, have difficulty accessing public transport, and organisations and groups to attend social activities such as memory groups, lunch clubs, shopping excursions and meeting friends.

The transport provides safe, coordinated, friendly, cost effective transport for everyone in the community. Last year, 4,339 service users made 32,671 self-funded journeys with volunteer drivers.

The transport services provided over 122,900 journeys last year, covering over 2.3-million miles.

TAP perform an invaluable role in the community, providing individuals, organisations and groups an opportunity to find out what transport is available, identify the costs and to book and co-ordinate the service with ease.

Life can be made so much easier with this service, and nothing is too much trouble for the volunteer drivers and staff.

To continue this work, the charity is seeking volunteer drivers throughout Cornwall and South Devon, wanting to hear from those who can commit even just a day or two of their time a month to the scheme.
