KIRKY Lonsdale is Launceston, according to a BBC production company filming the Daphne de Maurier classic novel 'Jamaica Inn,' in Kirkby Lonsdale, in Cumbria.
The town was used to represent Launceston in the story, which revolves around the famous inn and smuggling. The 'misrepresentation' was brought to the 'Post's' attention by Jenny Worth, from Launceston, who recently spent a few days with friends in Kirkby Lonsdale, 353 miles away from Launceston, to say nothing about a million miles away in architecture, history and lay-out.
Kirkby is an historic market town situated between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Just imagine the economic benefits to the real town of Launceston and area if the production company had chosen the real thing?
