TWO Launceston Amateur Boxing Club members took on two boys from Torbay Amateur Boxing Club at The Riviera Centre, Torquay, on Thursday November 13.

They were on the bill as supporting bouts on a show that was hosting the Western Counties Senior Novice Championship Finals.

Dan Braunton (13) faced Sam Watt (13).

From the opening bell Dan put the pressure on with a fast two-fisted onslaught, backing his opponent to the ropes.

Sam tried to get his own shots off but was no match for the Launceston boy's strength which forced the referee to intervene midway through the first round and issue a standing eight count whereupon the Torbay coach retired his boxer to save him from any further punishment. The Launceston boy was declared the winner.

James Hobson (15) boxed Jamie Nunn (16), this being the amateur debut for both.

The Launceston boy was up against it against a much taller southpaw.

From the opening bell the Torbay boxer unleashed a heavy two-fisted attack forcing James onto the back foot.

James stuck to his boxing and displayed great defensive skills catching a lot of shots on his arms or gloves, but was unable to find the target himself. This continued into the second round with James now falling behind on points.

The third round saw James change tactics, throwing caution to the wind, unleashing a two-fisted attack to the head.

Midway through the round the referee called time-out and asked the doctor to inspect the Torbay boxer's very blooded and swollen nose.

Under advice from the doctor that the Torbay boy had sustained a broken nose, the referee stopped the contest declaring the Launceston boy the winner.
