CPRE Devon has expressed its full support for the campaign to bring a full passenger rail service back between Exeter and Okehampton.
Representatives from the organisation attended the OkeRail consultation morning held at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude on Saturday, February 18.
A spokesperson from CPRE Devon said that they were pleased to have had a stand at the recent public exhibitions organised by OkeRail at Okehampton and Bude, which was hosted by the Bude and Holsworthy Railway Action group, now known as ‘Connect Bude’.
Penny Mills from CPRE Devon said: “We believe a rail service between Exeter and Okehampton would make such a huge difference to so many people across a large area of Devon and North Cornwall.
“Both local residents, businesses and visitors alike would benefit. It would also be good for the environment by helping to get cars off the road. It’s a peculiar situation in that there is a limited train service in the summer but only on a Sunday — so clearly there is nothing wrong with the line, so why not run trains the rest of the week as well?
“Plymouth station is getting tens of millions of pounds of investment. It only needs a fraction of that to get a new station built at Okehampton. I hope that everybody gets ‘on board’ the campaign!”
