THE Robert Johns Leukaemia Fund (RJLF) has received a further boost after a well-known folk rock band presented a cheque of £3,000 during their concert which added an extra £176.77 to the total.
The Launceston-based Cornish folk rock harmony band ‘The Countrymen’ have made another significant donation to RJLF and decided to mark the occasion by arranging a fundraising performance at their local ‘headquarters’, The Countryman Inn at Langdon Cross.
The event took place on the Friday between Christmas and the new year, December 28, despite some of the band member’s concerns that there would not be a good turnout in the ‘crimbo limbo’ period.
Steve Gilbert from The Countrymen said: “We were completely overwhelmed by the number of people who came to see both us and the fabulous Shed Singers.
“Not only did we have the ideal opportunity to handover a cheque for £3,000 but we also raised a further £176.77 in donations on the night. It was a great way to end what has been a very successful year for us.”
