AFTER sustaining multiple injuries in a recent car crash, a lady from Launceston was determined to regain her strength and get back underground.

Cornish Bard Pat Tremain who is also a member of the British Caving Association, having recovered from multiple fractures and internal injuries sustained in June, celebrated her recovery by going pot-holing in the deepest cave system in the UK. She explored part of the Ogof Ffynnon Ddu caves in the Brecon Beacons with her cave leader Gary Evans.

They were privileged to see a bat hibernating fairly near one of the entrances to the cave; and went on to climb, scramble, squeeze and belly-crawl to see some wonderful limestone formations in the underground chambers.

Pat said: “It was fantastic to be back underground again, and also a very humbling experience.”

And of course, she had her trusty Cornish flag to hand to represent her home county.
