THERE has been some confusion regarding the Co-op store’s welcome sign in Launceston town centre.
The Post was contacted by a local lady who said that the store, located in the centre of town, was looking a little strange.
She explained that when shopping in Launceston one Saturday, she noticed that the recently refurbished store’s sign read ‘Welcome to Broad Street’s Co-op’, but the town’s High Street sign was directly above the store.
Broad Street’s sign is situated opposite the store, on DC Property’s building, causing some confusion about the accuracy of the store’s sign. A mishap on Co-op’s behalf perhaps?
This central store has recently undergone a £450,000 renovation, which includes the new welcome sign highlighting its location, and reopened on Friday, March 31.
With many local people taking to the Facebook page, Launceston Notice Board, also recognising the oddity, the Post got in touch with Co-op to see if they had indeed made a humorous mistake.
However, Co-op has since stated that their sign is correct.
A spokesperson for the supermarket said: “The store’s postal address is listed at Broad Street and this is the location that our customers tell us they associate the store with. We do appreciate that it could be confusing given that the Co-op straddles two streets, and we’re happy to listen to any customers who feel strongly about it.”
