THE area outside Launceston’s Cornish and Devon Post building has been tidied up by volunteers as part of a Launceston Matters action day.

Around 20 people helped smarten up a section of Westgate Street and Dunheved Road by weeding and painting the railings. By the time rain stopped work, the volunteers had finished the weeding and made a good start on sanding down the railings and beginning to paint.

Cornwall Councillor Jade Farrington said: “It’s lovely to see what can be achieved when so many people pull together. I would like to thank everyone who came along, including the great turnout from the church volunteer group Wear Love Out. Thanks also to Launceston Town Council for lending equipment; CORMAC and Jewson Ltd for donating paint; Tesco for donating snacks for volunteers; and the Cornish and Devon Post for making teas and coffees.”

The event was organised as part of the Launceston Matters initiative. If you would like to help finish the project or find out about future events you can do so by joining the Launceston Matters group at www.facebook.com/groups/launcestonmatters

- AT?HURDON Way, in Launceston, residents and helpers of all ages joined in a litter pick on the morning of May 20, to help keep the estate tidy.

Litter picks are regularly organised by Hurdon Way Residents’ Association after Cllr Jade Farrington, who represents Launceston South on Cornwall Council, funded equipment from her community chest.

Jade said: “Well done to the residents for organising regular clean ups and taking pride in their estate. It was lovely to see young children getting involved and everyone pulling together.”

Volunteers enjoyed bacon baps and drinks at Proper Ansome Café after the clean up.
