THE Charles Causley Trust will be celebrating National Poetry Day with a special event being held in Launceston’s Town Hall.

The event, being held on Thursday, October 6, is entitled ‘Messages for Charles’ and will be an evening of poetry, live music and readings.

Taking part in the evening will be Jim Causley. He is fresh from a recent week spent at Cyprus Well and will be presenting new song settings for Causley’s children’s poems and favourites from his repertoire.

Students from local schools and colleges will read poems that they have written during workshops, which were run by previous writer-in-residence Karen Hayes. Karen will also talk about the process they undertook to create these poems.

Current resident writer at Cyprus Well Charlotte Walker will also attend on the day to provide her ‘message for Charles’.

Other friends and fans of Causley will read some of his work and letters relating to the NPD theme of ‘messages’.

The event starts at 7.30pm. Entrance costs £5 to £1 for under 16s.
