BUDE Stratton and District Cancer Research committee has raised a total of £30,000 this year, bringing their current amount to £115,000 over the past four years.
Chairman Ray Shaddick hosted a lunch at the Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club and thanked the 100 volunteers present for their support and generosity in helping the charity with this year's achievements.
After visiting the Derriford oncology unit and seeing that clearly, cancer has no age barrier, Ray spoke of a consultant's comment that if it were not for the fundraising of the general public, cancer treatment and cures would not have progressed as they have today. Clinical trials are taking place across Westcountry hospitals, with great strides being undertaken.
Ray thanked the committee for the continued work and support they are providing, along with the Post, Radio Cornwall and photographer Paul Hamlyn for the greatly appreciated publicity they have generated.
