RESIDENTS of the Hurdon area of Launceston have a chance tonight (Thursday) to voice their feelings on a scheme to build a new estate of 207 homes and on whether the town's infrastructure can cope with the extra pressure.

It is hoped that planning officials from North Cornwall District Council — which will eventually decide on the application — will be there to answer questions.

The meeting is open to any member of the public to attend.

Wainhomes South West want to develop land at the rear of Hurdon Way, Launceston, for 207 residential dwellings with associated roads, footways, drainage, parking and landscaping and to demolish the existing garage block and provide 18 replacement garage spaces within the overall scheme.

Cllr John Harris told the meeting of Launceston Town Council at the Guildhall, on January 20, that the meeting would take place at 7pm tonight (Thursday) at the D S Smith building and everybody is welcome. Wainhomes have been invited to send representatives.

SAFETY

Town councillors say there are a number of issues in Hurdon Road and Hurdon Way which needed to be addressed, including road safety as a result of increased traffic and poor access from Hurdon Way to the development site, and the Tesco access by the sub-station.

The Residents' Association at Hurdon has undertaken a traffic survey and would make it available.

The town council also says that the infrastructure provision — including an access road from the roundabout — should take account of the large scale of the Wainhomes development and the other sites in the vicinity of the development site which have been allocated or are also being considered for future development.

The town council also says that the provision of a school in the area should be re-considered and figures are being obtained from local schools on the future demand for places to support the argument.
