AFTER hearing numerous complaints from young people in Camelford that they were bored and there was nothing for them to do in the town, two lads, Dougie Rehling and Ricky Jameson decided to start a youth disco.

The project was successful in receiving £1,000 of funding from Crimebeat and Camelford Town Council to enable the disco equipment to be purchased.

The DJ night will be held on the first Friday of every month at Clease Hall, Camelford. This will be open to young people aged 11 to 17 from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. Adult supervision is included.

Camelford PCSO Sam Smith said: "We held the first DJ night on Friday, October 2 which was a slow start but there were some young people there who really enjoyed the evening. Project DJ would like to thank all the adult volunteers who made the evening possible by providing their support, these including: Julie Dowton, Betty Hale, Peggy Ellison, Chris Simms, Daniel Tucker, Daniel Dowton, Mick Weaver, Jonathon Holt and Paul for the technical support."

The entrance fees will be kept to a minimum to ensure that the evening is open to as many people as possible. This will be set at £1 unless a group is performing. The fees that are taken will be put back into the project to fund 'guest' appearances from bands and dance groups such as 'FLAVA.'

The project would also like to hear from any up and coming group or individual who would be interested in performing on one of the DJ nights.

PCSO Smith added: "Hopefully this project will raise young people's aspirations as well as giving them something to do."

Anyone who is interested in volunteering to provide support on the evenings please contact PCSO Smith on 01840 213709.
