THE rents for the new allotments in Camelford were agreed by councillors at a meeting of the town council on March 17.
The community gardens project, on land at Valley Truckle, is a response to local demand and has attracted interest from people from all over the town and of all ages.
Mayor of Camelford, Cllr Brian Lush said there was no shortage of takers, and added that the plots were "going like hot cakes."
A letter was sent to the council from a local resident who asked that concessions are made on the rent for people over 65.
After hearing the letter, Cllr Shaw felt the council shouldn't make concessions and said that 80p a week was reasonable, as they also get free water.
He proposed that the rents remain the same — £40 per full plot and £20 per half plot per year. This was seconded by Cllr Eddie McCormick, five councillors voted in favour and one abstained from the vote.
